What is Hospital Homebound Instruction (HHB):

Hospital/homebound (HHB) Instruction is designed to provide continuity of educational services between the classroom and home or healthcare facility as specified in GA HHB Rule 160-4-2-.31. General and special education students whose medical needs, either physical or psychiatric, exclude them from attending school for a limited period of time are eligible.

HHB instruction is not intended to supplant regular school services and are by design temporary. The student must anticipate being absent from school for a minimum of ten consecutive or intermittent school days due to medical or psychiatric conditions, as specified in GA Rule 160-4-2-.31. The student’s inability to attend school for medical psychiatric reasons must be certified by the treating licensed physician (medical) or licensed psychiatrist (emotional) who provides treatment for the presenting diagnosis.
